Try the free Dressmaker prototype on itch.io. Compare it with the paid Steam game, find official downloads and check Windows, Mac and Linux availability.

Want to try Dressmaker before buying? The developers offer an earlier prototype on itch.io. It lets you explore choosing fabric, cutting patterns and sewing dresses, but it is not the full Steam game.
Where can I play the free Dressmaker demo?
Visit the developer's itch.io page and use its Download Now button. The page uses name-your-own-price downloads: the prototype is free, with an optional payment. Choose the file for your operating system. The listed downloads are Prototype 0.5.5 for Windows, macOS and Linux.
Use the developer's page rather than a re-upload claiming to provide the full Steam game for free.
Prototype vs Steam: what is the difference?
| Question | itch.io prototype | Steam full game |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free or pay what you want | Paid; check your regional store price |
| Status | Earlier, unfinished prototype | Released September 21, 2026 |
| Listed desktop platforms | Windows, macOS, Linux | Windows, macOS |
| Where to get it | Developer's itch.io page | Official Steam store |
| Content | Early dressmaking experience | Customer commissions, a dress shop and the expanded creative tools described on Steam |
The developer explicitly labels itch.io's download a prototype and directs players to Steam for the full game. Do not assume guides for one version apply unchanged to the other.
Can I play the Steam version for free?
The Steam full game is a paid product. The free itch.io prototype is a separate download; it does not unlock the Steam version. For regional prices and current offers, use the buying guide and official store. We have not verified save transfer between the prototype and full game.
Which download should I choose?
Use the prototype to find out whether you enjoy the hands-on cutting and sewing loop. Choose the full game when you want the released experience. The itch.io page warns that the Mac prototype is not notarized by Apple; that warning concerns the prototype, not a verified test of the Steam Mac version. Check platforms and requirements before buying.
After trying it, follow the beginner guide or find community help through official resources.
